On May 29th, our Year 11 GCSE Geography group and many of our Year 10 group visited the Lissan River, near Cookstown to carry out a river study as part of the GCSE assessment. Jillian and Hazel from the Ballinderry Rivers Trust, Cookstown, facilitated the field study, enabling our pupils to carry out practical activities to develop their understanding of Rivers and how they are formed in a practical way. They measured the width and depth of the river channel at various sites, took gradient and velocity readings and measured for bedload size and shape. They were an excellent group who worked diligently and collectively in their teams to collect the necessary data successfully. Thankfully the weather was in our favour!!!!
